The Mucky Duck
The Mucky Duck, is one of my favorite restaurants in the Fort Myers area. The atmosphere is casual and the food is great. Several years ago The Mucky Duck was a small tea house called The Gulf View Inn located on Captiva Beach. Over time the beach started to erode and The Gulf View Inn was move back 300 feet. Eventually the Inn was closed and transformed into a beach house. In 1975 the beach house was sold to two entrepreneurs who wanted to turn the inn into a vacation rental property. While getting ready for business they discovered that the property had an expired liquor license and it could be renewed for only $100. After a discussion over a couple of beers and a beautiful sunset they decided to change direction and renew the liquor license. At that point The Mucky Duck was born.
I would suggest getting there early. It’s small inside and gets very busy for dinner. They do have outside seating for drinks and appetizers. There is usually live music to listen too. The Mucky Duck has one of the best views of the sunset.
When you go try the Duck Duck Shrimp. It’s a spicy appetizer and it is really good. I always get the Grouper. It is absolutely amazing. Matt really likes the Grilled Sword Fish and the Florida Lobster Tail. No matter what you pick, you can’t go wrong. If you have room for dessert, go for it. They are great too. If you are celebrating a birthday, let the hostess know. My friends an I took our friend out to dinner for her birthday. The hostess had the whole restaurant singing Happy Birthday.
If you have ever been to The Mucky Duck, let us know. We would love to hear what you liked about the restaurant.
